Ring In The Year Of The Dragon At Deutsch

By: Deutsch Fine Jewelry

On February 10th, we will be starting a brand new Lunar Year – the Year of the Wood Dragon. We want to be prepared for an auspicious and fruitful year both in actions and dress. The Lunar Zodiac and Lunar New Year traditions are determined by elements of the natural world. The zodiac animal changes every Lunar New Year and each animal brings different meanings and guidance on good decisions and lucky choices to make all year. The dragon is a zodiac character that is defined by adventurous risk-takers and natural-born leaders. Those born in dragon years of the past (1952, 1964,1976,1988, 2000, etc.) are likely to have quite a bit of good luck this year. The “wood” part of the Year of the Wood Dragon references the natural element that symbolizes this Lunar New Year. The wood element brings in principles of growth, vitality, and kindness. Some lunar astrologists say that these elements combined make a perfect cocktail for starting or expanding a business, proposing or getting married, and starting a family. Because the dragon’s love of celebration, new beginnings, and risk is paired with the wood year’s kindness, steadfastness, and growth, it’s going to be a year full of big decisions that lead to lasting change. We hope the stars are right because a Wood Dragon Year sounds like it’s going to be an exciting time for accessorizing and planning big moves.

Celebrate in Red

First things first – let’s get the Lunar New Year celebration outfits on lock. It’s said that red is a lucky color to wear during this auspicious time of year. According to legend, it wards off an ancient beast called “Nian” that would raize crop fields. Crops aside, red is a color that looks good on just about anyone. It’s tradition to give little red envelopes with money in them to family members around this time of year, and the red lanterns are a sight to be seen at any Lunar New Year Celebration. For ravishing red looks, Armenta’s got us covered. Pair the Garnet Pear Cut Stack band with the Maltese Cross Drop Earrings by Armenta and be well on the way to a perfectly curated Lunar New Year’s look. Set in bright yellow gold, these pieces play off of the yellows and golds often found offsetting the auspicious red colors of the Lunar New Year.

Bring Out the Inner Dragon

Dragons are lucky this year – it might be a good idea to wrap his finger around something auspicious. While the Year of the Wood Dragon tends to be more deeper in meaning than the animal symbol itself, it can also be a good idea to wear that symbol a bit this year – especially if the person in question was born on a dragon year himself. In yellow gold and titanium, the Dragon Ring by Ammara Stone is a beautiful representation of the adventurous, opportunistic dragon archetype. For a year that’s lucky for weddings, a dragon-laden band would be particularly auspicious for a lucky groom.

Get Back to Nature

Wood is the element that symbolizes growth, vitality, and a return to nature in the Lunar Zodiac. This can be symbolic as well as literal. Sometimes people start gardens or resolve to be in nature more during a wood year. Others focus on personal growth and developing the steadfastness of a sturdy tree. Regardless of how literally someone takes the “wood” component of the Year of the Wood Dragon, it’s a beautiful concept to accessorize. The Open Flowers Bracelet by John Apel harnesses the ethereal nature of flowers blossoming. In lustrous yellow gold, this flower design is suspended by delicate chains and accented with tiny white diamonds. This piece can be dressed up for a whimsical formal event or worn as a casual, everyday accessory. If worn on a daily basis, John Apel’s natural design will serve as a reminder to keep up with all of the wood year resolutions and keep growing.
