Bent, Broken, or Bruised
When is it time to take a piece of luxury jewelry to get repaired? In our professional opinion, the moment that even a scratch or dent is found. We wrote an article about proper at-home cleaning and care, a ritual that can (and should) be done at home with warm water and a soft-bristle brush. While keeping up an at-home cleaning schedule between professional cleanings is a great habit, we wouldn’t recommend attempting to do even basic jewelry repairs at home. Luxury jewelry is designed, cast, and shaped by masters of their craft and often the delicate details of the work can be irreparably damaged if repaired incorrectly. Some scratches can be easily buffed and polished out by a layman, but most blemishes should be rectified by a trained professional. A faulty repair job could lead to a loss of integrity in the piece, meaning it would have to be repaired even further down the line. When it comes to precious family heirlooms and one-of-a-kind custom pieces, it’s better to be safe than very sorry.
Resizing and Reimagining
Luxury jewelry pieces are made to last, but people are made to change – something that fit like a glove or worked with an outfit 20 years ago might not hit the same anymore. Don’t throw the diamonds out with the bathwater, though, a reimagination of an old classic can act as a brand-new piece. If the jewelry needs more than just a few touch-ups, we can offer to rework it as a custom piece, like the ever-growing trend of the divorce ring. If a wedding band or precious ring is starting to feel a little tight or a little loose, don’t wait to get it resized. A band that’s too tight could get stuck or cut off blood circulation, and even worse, a band that’s too loose could easily slip off and be lost forever. Whether it needs to fit a wrist, finger, or style, Deutsch has it covered.
A Missing Piece
Chains without links, earrings without diamonds, clasps without closures – we’re all too familiar with these heartbreaking tales of jewelry woe. One of the most common jewelry repairs we see is from something that has gone missing from the design. Thankfully, we are fully outfitted with everything we need for repair and replacement. If a link breaks on a bracelet or necklace, we can match the exact metal, color, sheen, and size to the original bracelet, whether it was purchased from us or not. If a gemstone setting is warped or left without maintenance for too long, a gemstone can pop right out of its place and render a beautifully designed luxury jewelry piece unwearable. Our expert repair team can find a comparable gemstone in cut, color, and clarity so that even the daily wearer wouldn’t be able to tell the difference.
Watching Out
Our expertise doesn’t end at diamonds and gold – we are also trusted by our customers to provide minute adjustments and meticulous maintenance to ensure peak performance in their watches. We wrote an article about the best way to care for your watches at home, but even the most dedicated watch owner should bring their watch in for servicing at least once every three to five years if everything is ticking correctly. If the watch is malfunctioning, damaged, or just not ticking at the right speed, it’s a good idea to bring it in for repairs even if it is before that three-year mark. We are proud to be one of the few jewelers to offer an authorized Rolex repair center and we are happy to bring your luxury watch back up to fighting shape.Photo by Tima Miroshnichenko via Pexels
