June Birthstones: Pearls and Moonstones

June Birthstones: Pearls And Moonstones

By: Deutsch Fine Jewelry

It’s June, and that means bikinis on the beach, parties by the pool, and all the June Geminis and Cancers celebrating birthdays in some of the most iridescent birthstones out there: the lustrous, organic pearl gemstone, and the mysterious, colorfluid moonstone. That’s right, June is a double-feature special for the birthday babes. Pearl birthstones are classic and feminine and are reminiscent of the sea. Coming from organic means, the pearl birthstone is much more fragile and easily damaged than other gemstones, but the unique luster is absolutely worth the upkeep. Shiny things come to those that are high-maintenance. Moonstone birthstones, on the other hand, have a playful look that isn’t afraid to push the envelope. Moonstones appear to have a cloudy look to them, but on closer inspection, these shapeshifters are simply chock-full of thin, alternating layers of crystalization, making it hard to nail down a color.

Cancers and Geminis might be pretty different in terms of divinely-interpreted personality traits (if you rely on constellations for guidance) but both easily flow with the vibes of pearls and moonstones. Pearls for June-born Cancers is a no-brainer. Cancer is the sign of the crab, a water sign through and through. Our sweet Cancer babes are also known for their sensitivity and for being in touch with their emotions. Basically, it’s their party and they can cry if they want to. Don’t worry - we haven’t forgotten about our Gemini girlies. June Geminis are highly creative, drawing them to the unique sheen of their moonstone birthstone jewelry. Gemini ladies are also known for being very social. Nothing sounds better to a June Gemini than a girl’s night out on the town showing off their new moonlit looks all night long.

Pearls for the Girls

It’s a delicate task, creating pearl looks. Not only do these lustrous little gems from the sea create a feminine, dainty vibe, but they also need to be cared for accordingly. Pearls are the softest gem out there - which makes a lot of sense since they are the only fully organic gemstone created out of living material. Pearls are formed when a mollusk gets a little piece of sand stuck in its shell, and the critter inside covers it with a pearlescent coating. Because they are made of such delicate material, pearl jewelry should be kept out of sunlight for extended periods of time and should always be gently polished with a microfiber cloth during cleanings. No harsh chemicals for these babies.
