A Customized Process
We sat down with our resident custom jewelry expert, Joy, to get the details on the customization process. Joy has been working in luxury retail for twelve years and she cites her excellent mentors for her current expertise. A solid understanding of hands-on training in diamonds, precious gems, and luxury jewelry is paramount for a custom jewelry expert, and Joy has these qualifications in spades.
Design with Deutsch
The customization process at Deutsch Fine Jewelry is as simple as it is effective. The process starts with an initial consultation: The client may bring in family heirlooms, loose stones, broken jewelry, or vintage timepieces. During this consultation, Joy and our team will look at the materials available and discuss what our client’s vision is for their custom piece. We take any required measurements like finger size or wrist size at this time so that all designs are created with the wearer in mind.
Next, Joy and our team create a CAD rendering. CAD stands for “Computer-Aided Design,” which means that we create a computerized image of the client’s design, complete with the materials garnered from the initial consultation process. The CAD rendering is shown to our client and since it’s an accurate 3D depiction, our clients can make any modifications they would like before ever creating a physical prototype or cast. Once the digital design is approved, a wax model of the custom design is printed as a physical rendering of the piece. Finally, we cast and polish the custom piece, sending the new piece home with you to enjoy or to gift.
Joy’s favorite custom designs that come across her desk are usually family heirlooms – many pieces in need of a redesign have a wealth of history behind them, sometimes spanning decades through major historical events.
