Aquamarine Dream
We’re in the Ides of March, which means the beginning of spring, some kind of basketball madness, and aquamarine everything. It’s time for March babies to shine. The girls born in March are blessed with one of the most unique birthstones on the chart - the charming pale blue stone, aquamarine. Aquamarine is a beryl stone, which is in the same family as other equally stunning gemstones like emerald and morganite. What a gorgeous family, too - with the translucent and almost pastel look of many beryl stones, they can be showstoppers in any luxury jewelry piece.
Hello, Sailor
The name “aquamarine” comes from the Latin word for “seawater,” which is an apt interpretation of this little blue stone. With their cool blue sheen, aquamarines are reminiscent of the cool pale waters of the Caribbean, which might be why they are commonly associated with tranquility. Depending on the stone and cut, the March birthstone range from an almost-clear light blue to cloudier, sea foam blueish green, but all aquamarine stones have the distinct color of the ocean. Since antiquity, aquamarine has been associated with the sea. The Romans believed that it was the stone of the god Posiden, and in our earliest found writings about the stone, Pliny the Elder wrote that aquamarines “seemed to come out of a mermaid’s treasure house.” This connection to the sea has been the reason that sailors are known to take aquamarines along with them on voyages as good luck charms, earning it the nickname “The Sailor’s Stone.”
A Tale of Two Fish - And a Ram
The beginning and middle of March belongs to the daydreamy, creative Pisceans, symbolized aptly by two fish circling each other. March Pisces are known for being free spirits who live in their own little world. Being water signs with the symbol as literal fish, the ocean-inspired aquamarine seems like a no-brainer. Pisces also tend to love aquamarine gemstones in their luxury jewelry for their association with peace and calmness as much as they love them for the sea blue-green hue. The end of March is for the March Aries girlies - a rare combo of astrological magic that makes these birthday girls electric personalities with a love for competition. The eye-catching nature of aquamarine paired with the unique blue hue makes this gemstone perfect for our March-born Aries sisters, too.
Lauren K All Day
When it comes to unique gemstones in luxury jewelry, Lauren K should be number one, two, and three on your list. The designers at Lauren K play with shape and color, but most importantly, all of the gemstones used are one-of-a-kind and cut in a way that doesn’t compromise their natural shape. In a world that runs on copies of copies, it’s refreshing to know that whatever the piece is, it will be as unique as each aquamarine gemstone.
Aquamarina and the Diamonds
We started off with a show stopper to frame a face (and to be perfectly paired with any of the fabulous aquamarine necklaces below.) The Cabochon Aquamarine Jordan Earrings by Lauren K boasts 5.31 of glistening blue aquamarine gemstones as the centerpiece, surrounded by a pave of white diamonds set in yellow gold. The earrings form a three-diamond point at the bottoms, giving them the essence of a single, shining droplet of clear blue water hanging from each ear.
Forever Blue
Leave it to Lauren K to use variance in color in luxury jewelry to create thoughtful designs. The Blue Sapphire and Aquamarine Linear Necklace juxtaposes the bright, coastal blue of aquamarine with the dark, deep blue of sapphire. It’s a salute to the many-colored sea herself and is held by a splendid diamond pave and a 20-inch yellow gold pinsetta chain. We’ve talked about how the no-necklace trend was out before it began, and necklaces like this remind us why.
