Slay-your lay-ers

A unique aesthetic, a sense of fun, a one-of-a-kind personality all lie beneath the layers of you, and we at Deutsch want to help you unravel those layers and express them through‒you guessed it‒layering your necklaces. Layering necklaces is a fabulous way to upgrade your everyday look. When done correctly, layering takes all the drama and elegance of a single statement necklace, and spreads it across a couple of simpler, stacked necklace chains, and creates a chic, minimalistic look. It sounds paradoxical, but this necklace trend creates the illusion of wearing less when you’re wearing more! However, a lot of effort is needed to balance this effortless look. It can seem intimidating to a layering novice, so if you’re on the verge of tiers, fear not for Deutsch Fine Jewelry Houston has you covered! We compiled all our ultimate tips and tricks for layering necklaces into one handy list and even included our recommendations for superbly stackable necklace chains

Ready Layer One: Deutsch’s Tips and Tricks for Necklace Layering

1: Know when to layer. Not every outfit calls for necklace layering. If you want to avoid looking like that one picture of Dwayne “the Rock” Johnson in a turtleneck and chain, you have to pick your layering moments carefully. Layering should fill in the visual space on your neck and chest to bring attention to your gorgeous face, so it suits necklines like v-necks and scoop-necks.

2: Know how much to layer. If you’re still honing your stacking game, you should stick to 2-4 necklaces. You should wear necklaces of different lengths, too. We suggest wearing some combination of a choker or14-inch short necklace on top, a 16-inch to18-inch medium necklace in the middle, and a 20+ inch long necklace on the bottom.

3: Know what to layer. The number of necklaces you wear and their lengths are just the beginning! When layering necklaces, especially as a beginner, you should marry your metals. Sticking your pedal to a warm or cool-toned metal lets you more confidently mix styles of chains. We also suggest finding a focal point, like a pendant or charm necklace, among your 2-4 necklaces to pull your look together cohesively.

Now that you know all the secrets to necklace layering, let’s get to applying them!

Deutsch’s Most Lusciously Layer-able Necklaces

Warm Tones: Yellow Gold

For the short necklace in your yellow gold necklace stack, we adore the Deutsch Signature Diamond Choker Necklace. Made in-house by Deutsch, this choker necklace showcases glittering diamonds set in 14k yellow gold which bring more than enough drama for the piece to act as the fabulous focal point of your necklace layers.

For the medium necklace(s) in your yellow gold necklace stack, we can’t take our eyes off the Sueno Necklace with Gold Crivelli and Oval Link Stations by Armenta. Adjustable at 16 inches and 18 inches long, this 18k yellow gold necklace alternates Crivelli and oval link adornments in stations along a chain. Station necklaces in general are wonderful for introducing funky textures to your necklace stack. If you want all that gorgeous texture with a little less visual busyness, consider a medium-length yellow gold necklace made by Rudolf Friedmann. The Rudolf Friedmann Gold Link Necklace, for example, features chunky 17.5 inches of 14k yellow gold links that are ideal for preventing the homogeneous-looking trap necklace layering can so easily fall into.

For the long necklace(s) in your yellow gold necklace stack, we have to turn to our favorite Venetian goldsmiths: Temple St. Clair. These gold chain necklaces come in multiple lengths, but for layering purposes, we recommend the 24 or 32-inch chains. If you’ve already got your focal point and your chunky textures, we recommend a thinner, more delicate chain like the Temple St. Clair Extra Small Oval Chain or the Temple St. Clair Fine Round Chain. Pop on an iconic Temple St. Clair pendant for extra oomph.

Cool Tones: Sterling Silver & White Gold

For the short necklace in your sterling silver or white gold necklace stack, we’re going to the stables with our favorite equestrian-inspired brand: Vincent Peach. The charming Vincent Peach Le Laura Necklace rests right at the base of the neck with the sterling silver and diamond pendant calling attention to your beautiful collarbones. Hello, focal point! With a short necklace as elaborate as this, we recommend simple, delicate sterling silver chains or white gold chains for the medium and long layers

For the medium necklace(s) in your sterling silver or white gold necklace stack, we invite you to dive under the sea for some world-famous Mikimoto pearls. Another station necklace perfect for layering, the Mikimoto Akoya Cultured Pearl Station Necklace sets 11 different 5.50 mm round pearls along an 18-inch 18k white gold chain. For a more understated medium-length necklace, look to Meira T
